Some like minded individuals had a good excuse to do a party ride and I was lucky enough to make it.
This was my first opportunity to take the Rig to Pisgah and I was giddy with anticipation. Last time I rode in Pisgah with suspension was almost a year ago and it was on the 5"FS Cake and the whole time I wish I was on the rigid 69er. Little wheels suck up there. My last ride in Pisgah was PMBAR and at the end I can remember hating the going down Black at the end. No one should hate going down Black and something had to change. The two reasons where the rigid fork and the mechanical disc brakes. The ride was just painful. I needed to find that happy place again where the bike disappears and you flow down the trail. I was really hoping the Rig would provide that experience.
Jonathon and I started our day at 930 with a ride from Dennis' house on Vineyard and N. Mills??? and back which ended up being about 2 hours. Vineyard has a great downhill that let me test things out. The bike was handling perfectly and the Avid Elixer brakes are great.
When we got back the rest of the group was ready to head out so we refilled and hit the trails again. This ride turned into a 5-1/2 hour party that went something like, Vineyard, xxx, Squirrel, S. Mills and back. Going down Squirrel was the most fun I have had on a bike in years. I was second in line behind Clay and he would crush me on the climbs, but I would pull him back in on the downs. As Logan would say, "We were smoken". When we got to the bottom I could not hold in the laughter. Man that is good stuff! That bike is meant for those types of trails.
We dredged back through S. Mills, my favorite trail... and then back to the house.
A great day in the woods.
