Mountain Weekend

We spent last weekend at our neighbor's mountain house. It is tucked in between the towns of Boone and Blowing Rock only about 2-3 miles from the Parkway. This is the view from the upper level back porch. While it was 110 degrees in Cola, I enjoyed 75 degree temps and many cold beverages on that porch.

I had done some internet research for some trails and thought I found something that Logan and I could ride. It took us an hour to drive out there and we could never find the trail. It was really overgrown in this part of Pisgah. We did find this trail and gave it a go. It started off easy, but quickly got to be too much for the little guy and we turned around. At least we made it out in the woods for a while.

Later that day we took the family out to the Linville area. The look out over the gourge is pretty nice. Next time we need to get to the caverns.

On Sunday we headed to Grandfather Mountain. They have black bears, otters, mountain lions, eagles, and deer kept in habitats in the park. Then we headed up the mountain along the short but fun hiking trail. The temps up there were probably in the 50s. Logan got to wear some cold weather riding gear since we were not prepared for those temps. On the way up the mountain you could hear the wind howling through the bridge. I bet it was blowing 65mph. The video below shows how bad it was up there.

We got back to Cola on Monday. I am ready for my next trip up there. This time I will take the road bike because of how close the parkway is. I will probably still bring the MTB just in case.
Here is a recent of Eli, getting chubby like should.
