Dupont never lets me down. It has probably been 1 year since my last ride in Dupont, not because I have not been up that way, but because lately when I have been up there we have rode Pisgah instead. It is always such a difficult decision on where to ride when going towards the mountains. I experienced a similar situation when I went to Green’s Friday to buy beer. There are like 2000 choices and they all look good. Luckily when it comes to riding in the WNC I am not going in blind. Jonathan is always up to providing a guided tour. And like always the route is a blast.
The ride time posted was 9am. I arrived at the parking lot around 8:20 with plenty of time to get everything prepared for a long day in the saddle. David George and Jonathan pulled in around 9am and we hit the trails around 9:30. I have no idea what trails we hit, but we rode for about 5-6 hours. On the way out to the Ridgeline trail we hit some new trail and stopped at the bottom along a fence. I thought Jonathan was taking care of business in the bushes, but then he emerged with two PBR lights. Bonus.
We then went out to Ridgeline (the only trail name I know) and back towards the cars. It was a damn good day on the bike. It was also the first time I have had the SS in Dupont. I was running a 33X20(42.8”) gear which was perfect for the day.
One thing I know for sure is that I have to move closer to that area. Life is too short to let those experiences pass me by.
It looks like the next time I go up there may be the Father/Son camping trip. Jonathan has generously offered to provide a guide of Dupont’s more kid friendly trails. Logan is already looking forward to it, so am I.
Enjoy the Experience.
