Last week was not the best for riding. I spent a few days recovering from the 6 hour race in Rock Hill. Rode K3 on Tuesday. It rained like crazy for about an hour out on the trail. You know it is bad when there is standing water out there. IPOD died due to rain. There goes my only riding buddy. I guess I am back to listening to the voices in my head. Thursday did some spinning at 5:30am and that about sums it up.
I really wanted to race the Harbison Race on Sunday, but the wife pulled a trump card. I will be missing a few Sundays at church this month due to PMBAR and my niece's birthday party, so my attendance this Sunday was mandatory. I did manage to get a road ride in after church.
I have a great 50 mile Lake Wateree loop from the house. (Lots of climbing!)
Saturday morning we had a soccer game at 9am. The girls lost their first game this season. They are now 4-1. Again I am torn between how to coach these games. The other team played the same players in the same positions all game long. In other words, he played to win. I on the other hand, I rotated players through all positions making sure everyone gets equal playing time and an opportunity to grow in all aspects of the game. We lost 1-0 and had a lot of opportunities. I have now decided that we will continue to play this way in regular season, but come the end of the season tournament, IT IS ON. Here is an early prediction. We are taking home the title for Spring '09.
Logan had a his first BMX race in Lexington Saturday night. Due to other events in the area, turnout was not great. There was only one other boy in his moto and he has been racing for a year. In the first moto Logan beat him out of the gate and through turn 1, but then the other boy took him on the second straigth and on to win. Logan did not win any of the motos that night, but kept it close. He was pretty upset about it, but nothing too bad. On the way home I explained that now he knows he has to work at this to get good and not to be a quitter. His response was, "I am not a quitter,... I am a loser". He kills me.
We are going out to Columbia BMX tonight to get in some practice and try out his new gear. I think some of the reason he could not keep up with the other boy is because of the gearing he is running. He was spun out real early, but getting out the gate well. His bike came with a 40" gear. I put a 15 on the back for a 43.3", but that still is not enough. We are going to try out a 49.9 today and see how it goes.
Enjoy the Experience.
